Researchers often seek ways to translate their work into practice, but direct interactions with policymakers or practitioners remain rare. This article explores why practitioners choose not to engage researchers despite the potential benefits of bridging theory and practice. Using a field experiment partnered with a US civic organization, it reveals that group leaders are more likely to connect when they perceive efficiency in information sharing and feel their expertise is valued by academics.
