How Negative Hate Helped Trump Elect

Negative partisanship—disliking the other party more than liking one's own—and positive partisanship (enjoyment of belonging to a party) both significantly influenced voting behavior in 2016. A survey examined these dynamics, finding that negative sentiment often outweighed positive enthusiasm and contributed substantially to Trump's victory. This study explores how resentment toward opponents shaped electoral outcomes.
