New Approach Tamest Multilingual Sentiment Analysis For Measuring Parliamentary Conflict

Methodology subfield banner

Measuring conflict in legislative debates across different languages has been challenging. This article introduces a multilingual sentiment-based method to overcome this hurdle.

Our approach relies on translating existing sentiment dictionaries, showing these translations are reliable enough for accurate analysis. We demonstrate that sentiment scores capture various types of government-opposition dynamics effectively.

Key findings reveal:

  • Translated sentiment dictionaries yield valid results
  • This technique successfully represents parliamentary conflict in multiple languages

Applications across diverse settings confirm the approach's ability to recover political dynamics between parties.
