A Minnesota law that automatically nullifies someone's designation of a spouse as beneficiary to a life-insurance policy after a divorce does not violate the Constitution's contracts clause. The state law does not substantially impair the insurance contract; it actually helps carry out the policy holder's presumed intent and the policy holder can still opt to designate the ex-spouse as beneficiary.
